If uncertainties in the hurricane strength require warning for the next higher category of hurricane, then major increases in the number of people evacuated and preparation costs would be required. Also, the number of people evacuated would be substantially more than tens of thousands of people. Economic factors receive serious consideration from the National Hurricane Center NHC , and local and state officials consider not only direct, but also indirect effects, on people’s response.
People will not continually take expensive actions that, afterwards, prove to have been unnecessary. If we consistently overwarn by wide margins, people will not respond and such actions could result in large loss of life. To maintain credibility with the general public, NHC and local and state officials cannot treat all hurricanes as if they were Camilles, Hugos, or Andrews. Such an exaggerated approach may indeed provide maximum protection of life for a given event, but it endangers many more lives the next time when the threat may be even greater.
Many of these people have been through weaker hurricanes or been brushed by the fringe of a major hurricane. The result is a false impression of the damage potential of these storms. This frequently breeds complacency and delayed action that could result in the loss of many lives. For example, people living on barrier islands might be reluctant to evacuate under “blue sky” conditions until they actually see the threat water rising and winds increasing.

It brings me back to a time when there were beach parties and surfers were able to roam the shorelines without concern. This small section of seashore is home to one of the best undeveloped beaches in the area, as well as the former location of Fort McRee, a Confederate fort that guarded the Pensacola Bay only a single battery remains of this Fort. It also happens to be one of the only places where camping on the beach is still allowed.

This year was quite different. The RV park office no longer operates. You must park your RV in back of the casino and register at the hotel desk. Trash pickup was a problem everyday we were there for 8 days. Everyday we had to call the hotel to get someone to pick it up. The park was far from full, but each site leaves their trash out, so all those trash bags baking in the sun for hours wasn’t good.
The fields surrounding the area were being plowed and the dust was so thick, it left all the vehicles in the area with a thick layer of the stuff, and we couldn’t sit outside without being covered with dust because of the wind. This went on for the majority of our 8 day stay. The sewer dump on our site clogged. When we called to report it, we were told we had to move to another site to dump. We were able to dump enough to keep from having to move off the site.
Pulling out on our last day, we went to the main sewer dump by the gate. To our dismay, this dump was clogged as well. We had already hooked up our vehicle, so we manuvered our RV very close to an empty site, connected two sewer hoses and ran this to a working sewer dump.

Even a couple of degrees can bring a lot of relief to the fish. If you are looking to get out, the trout are biting well in the deeper canals and deep edges of the grass flats.
Use live shrimp that are easier for the trout to chase down or really slow down the retrieval of an artificial bait, bouncing along the bottom.

There are definitely pockets of clean water along the beaches that are holding fish but most of the Boca Ciega Bay Area continues to be hit hard by the red tide. Another cold front slides through today but not bringing much of a temperature change with it. Offshore we have kingfish on the mind. Some good reports of kings out on some of the deeper reefs in the north county area.
